Citizenship

About Argentina.

It is South America's second-largest country by area, stretching from the subtropical north to the glaciers of Patagonia. It is a G20 economy with significant natural resources. Its capital, Buenos Aires, is a cosmopolitan hub known for its European-influenced architecture, dining and cultural life. Argentina's culture is recognized around the world, from tango and football to its wine and cuisine.

Argentina has announced its first Citizenship by Investment program. Economy Minister Luis Caputo presented the planned framework in Paris, with applications expected to open during the fourth quarter of 2026.

Argentina is also home to a respected passport. Its Citizenship by Investment program is the first of its kind in South America. Citizens are expected to benefit from extensive international mobility, along with preferential residence rights across much of South America.

The program offers two routes: a non-refundable Treasury Contribution and a Sovereign Bond Investment. Both support Argentina's fiscal and financial objectives, and together they suit a range of investor profiles.

Screening & Approval

How Applications Are reviewed.

Every application goes through a rigorous, multi-agency review before a decision is made.

The Agency for Citizenship by Investment Programs leads the process, working with the State Intelligence Secretariat, the Financial Information Unit and the Ministry of Security. International due diligence experts are also involved.

Checks cover identity, source of funds, assets, criminal and reputational records, immigration history and jurisdictional risk. All funds must pass through the formal financial system.

Once the review is complete, the Agency makes a recommendation to the National Directorate of Migration, which takes the final decision on each application.

Lifestyle

Life in Argentina.

Beyond the emerging citizenship program, Argentina offers a rich, cosmopolitan lifestyle with some of the most varied landscapes and cultural life in South America.

Quality of Life

Buenos Aires is one of Latin America's great cosmopolitan capitals, known for its European-influenced architecture, world-class dining, and rich cultural calendar of tango, theatre, and live music. A lower cost of living compared to North America or Europe allows for a genuinely high standard of living.

Natural Diversity

Few countries offer Argentina's range of landscapes within a single national border — from the vineyards of Mendoza to the glaciers and mountains of Patagonia, and the subtropical wetlands of the north. This makes Argentina appealing not just as an investment destination but as a genuine lifestyle base.

Economic Reform Momentum

Argentina's current government has pursued an active program of economic liberalization and deregulation aimed at attracting foreign investment, of which the Citizenship by Investment framework is one part. For investors willing to track a developing market, this reform momentum is itself part of the appeal.

Additional Treasury contributions apply by family composition. The government states that a main applicant, spouse and two children under 18 would contribute USD 500,000 in total; different family structures require an individual calculation.
