Portugal to Allow Birthright Citizenship

Great news for Golden Visa applicants & holders: Children born to foreign parents, at least one of whom has lived in Portugal for a year will be eligible for Portuguese citizenship at birth. The newly amended nationality law was published in the government gazette last week.

Noting that this new law reduces the time-frame to one year compared to the available law allowing children born in Portugal to foreign nationals resident in Portugal to qualify for birth-right citizenship, but only if at least one of their parents had to have been resident in the country for two or more years.
